Since Lent is just around the corner, perhaps your family, like ours, has already begun to consider what sacrifices you will make during the liturgical season. While our family rarely watches television (unless it's sports) we do love to watch movies. Lent, for us, is typically a time when we try to truly "unplug" from the noise and distractions of life, so (to my children's despair) this includes movies as well.
Knowing that a cinema-free home is what lies ahead for our boys, they will more than likely be begging for a movie marathon this weekend. Great! Consider it a fast-forward to Fat Tuesday! What will we be watching? I just ordered The Adventures of the Wilderness Family from Netflix, a series I loved watching as a child.
While we own dozens of movies, for this Quick Takes Friday, I thought I would share with you the top 7 movies that our boys continue to come back to over and over again. Just so you have an age reference, our oldest is almost 12 and our youngest is 2, but of course he's just there for the popcorn and blankets! Our 5 year old still prefers cartoons, but he will watch these as well. It was a little bit difficult to choose, so we had to create an "Honorable Mention" category.
What are your kids' favorite movies?? Please share in the comments!! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!!
2. Boy's Town
7. Old Yeller
Honorable Mention:
The Sandlot (for older kids)
We love the Princess Bride... all the sword fighting! We also like things like Frozen Planet and other nature documentaries. We just have to weed out the reproduction stuff for another few years ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Princess Bride is one of my all time favorites!! The words "As you wish" are both love and sarcasm around here!! :)
DeleteMy husband will be working all weekend long, so I'm glad to have some movie suggestions. My kids have read the books to many of these, but for some reason we've never seen the movies. I think the Sandlot is the only one they've actually seen. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteBooks ALWAYS come first around here, and most of the time, we prefer the books to the movies. But, I think that they boys especially love Swiss Family Robinson and Old Yeller about as well as the books.
DeleteLove all these!!!
ReplyDeleteOooh, The Adventures of the Wilderness Family! I'd forgotten about that! My oldest is four and can't sit still for more than 15 min so we've yet to watch a movie with him. That's a good thing, and a bad thing sometimes. :) Hubby and I love all the movies you listed. It will be fun to show them to him when he's a little older.
