7 Things That Make Me Smile - 7 QT Friday

1.  Rain:
The evening sky has often looked like this over the past couple of weeks.  Big storms are predicted, anticipations rise, thick, heavy clouds build on the horizon and come rolling in across the sky, bolstered by relentless winds.  Then, nothing.  Absolutely nothing.  Not one single drop.  Finally, Tuesday night we miraculously gained a whopping 0.25 inches.  I know, jump back. It's not much but when you're in a drought (we've received less than 2 inches of moisture since January!), every drop counts!

2.  Our climbing clematis blooming in the drought:
March indeed came in like a lion....and the lion never left.  The intensity of the wind out here can be downright depressing.  Since we are surrounded by very sandy farm ground and gravel roads, the wind picks up little pieces of rock and grit, pummeling everything in its path, including my garden.  While every other plant was perforated, leaves curled up crunchy, my clematis, which sits square in the center of the garden looked like the weather had been nothing short of perfect this spring.  Sometimes a little sprig of hope is all you need to keep a garden going!

3.  Sunflowers on a sunrise run:
They grow wild along the roadsides that surround our farm all summer long, and I'm so thankful for the cheerfulness they bring to my early morning sunrise runs.  They too, can handle the harshness of summer!

4.  Henry's quote of the week:
This kid keeps us all in stitches every single day.  If he only knew how funny he is!  Every week I share his comedy on my Facebook page -  if you're not a member yet, come and join us over there!
{A conversation with daddy after his first t-ball game:}
Dad:  Henry, what do you think about when you get up to bat?
Henry:  Well, Dad, mostly I think about growing up so I can get a pocket knife.
Dad:  Really?  That's what you think about? Well, you don't want to grow up too fast.
Henry:  Well, I'm at least old enough to have my very own pair of pliers.
Dad: Yes, I think that you are too.
Henry:  That would be awesome for me Dad, because then I don't have to think about tools when I get up to bat, I can just think about baseball.  Thanks, Dad!
(And, that's how the mind of a farm boy who plays t-ball works!)

5.  My sister, Sara, is due to have a baby any day now!
Carpe Bebe!! (We're a little bit mini-people crazy 'round here folks.  If you want me to hold your baby while you pick out shoes or answer the phone, I'm here for you.) For those of you who are new around here, I have just one sister and she lives way, way, way across the ocean in the beautiful country of Switzerland.  I know, cry because she's far away, and cry because she lives in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It's just too much!  Anyway, she will be bringing their fourth little miracle into the world any day now, so please keep her in your prayers!

6.  My Facebook quote of the week:
Keep swinging, just keep swinging, what do you do?? YOU KEEP SWINGING!!

7.  This courageous young man:
Amen!!

Thanks for hanging out with me this week!
Have a great weekend, Everyone!

  1. I thought of you last night. I went on a long walk and found myself sitting in front of the Marian shrine at our kids' school. It finally hit me, you run so you can talk to God! That hour and a half I had with him last night was precious... Have an awesome weekend and congrats on your sister's soon-to-be - how exciting!

  4. I just came across your site from your link up on Conversion Diary. I like your post, and I love the look of your site-- especially your fabulous header (I'm new to blogging and still working on the best layout for my site, so I really enjoy seeing all the great things other people come up with). Anyway, I am a runner as well (cc and track in school--back in the day--and now just for my sanity and health) and have two boys of my own (no girls except my dog), so I can appreciate where you're coming from.
