Happy Wednesday, Friends!! It's been a while since I've written a "Five Favorites" post, and since I'm still buried beneath a mountain of moving boxes, with little time to peek out and blog, I wanted to be able to write something quickly.
Last week, thanks to the help of Steve's mom, I was able to go out and run a few errands *alone,* alone, alone, alone!!! Now, granted, I was buying paint rollers and toothpaste, but who cares, right?? (Obviously, I have super-low expectations when it comes to personal time. It's what having 5 boys does to a woman.)
Waiting my turn in the check-out line, I went about my usual routine of turning around all of the eye assaulting bootie and boosom bearing magazines, which are all at the eye-level of children, my children, my boy children. Grrrrrr. After successfully rearranging Cosmo, because I wasn't wrestling a toddler and mediating a gum flavor debate between brothers, I thought I would flip through a fashion magazine or two. You know, just so I could see exactly how out of style 98% of my wardrobe is.
I was expecting to see pages of clothing that are just too "out there" or too expensive, but what I found was a pretty little list of fall trends that I actually dig. Some of the fashion is classy and neutral, and can be worn for several seasons, and others, cute as they may be, will probably end up in the Goodwill pile.
(Exhibit A - Big Hair)
The dangerous thing about trends, for me, is not catching the memo that the trend is out. Remember the big hair, big bangs, trend?? Well, that one took a decade to die for me. I probably have lung damage from all of the Biolage hairspray I inhaled in high-school. Raise your hand if you ever owned a set of hot-rollers, or banana clips. Mmmm, hmmmm, that's what I thought. This is kind of a snooze pic - all of my really hilarious ones are still taped up in a box somewhere, and that's probably where they should stay.
Anyway, on the rare occasion that I should wear something besides running attire, I do like for my duds to look somewhat current and put together. This fall, I'll be on the look-out for deals and steals of the following:
1. Booties.
One of my favorite fashion trends is the bootie worn with opaque tights and a dress. Super-chic. I would have to auction off a tractor to pay for those Christian Louboutin's, so that's not going to happen, but I couldn't resist sharing my admiration for the button detail with you. They really are quite perfect. The Isola Cherie pair are more affordable, and the patent tip-toes are ultra snazzy.
2. Something Emerald Green
Like this ahhhh-mazing dress from Dsquared, for instance! Now, don't get your hopes up, because, unfortunately, this one is also a big-time bank breaker. Don't despair, I'm sure there's something similar out there that would be just as fun to wear! I'm so happy green is in - although I'd wear it proudly (or ignorantly) even if it was out.
3. A Leather Jacket
If ever you could peel me out of a sweatshirt on a chilly day, I might be inclined to wear something like this little leather number from Funktional. I really like it's versatility - wear it with jeans, a long maxi skirt, or over a shift dress. It would look fab with a scarf, too!
4. Burgundy Lips and Nails
I know I said, lips and nails, but Susan doesn't do polish, so really I just meant lips. I'm a bit phobic when it comes to wearing dark/bright lipstick, so I thought that maybe wearing a gloss would be a good first-step. I snagged a tube of Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Bordeaux at Target last night, and I must say that I do love it!
5. Plaid Pants
I don't know, you guys, this one might be a bit of a stretch for me - for us. Plaid is hot for fall "they" say. A plaid shirt or even a plaid bag, yes, but pants?? This pair from Hautelook aren't too funky when paired with a classic turtle-neck and blazer.
What do you think? Thumbs up or thumbs down on plaid pants??
What's your favorite fall fashion trend?
More awesome favorites right here!!
I've never seen a picture of you were you weren't super cute and high fashion!!!
ReplyDeleteLately I've been living in simple summer dresses - so easy to throw on and go and I don't feel like my normal slob self in workout clothes!!!
I think I need to start posting more pics of me in daily normal life - running clothes, ponytail and no make-up!! Dressing up in more than work-out clothes does make you feel better, doesn't it??
DeleteOh, no! They aren't going back to plaid, are they? It was bad enough the first time around how many decades ago?
ReplyDeleteI love the green of the dress, and booties are fun. I could use a jacket or 10, and that one is quite nice.
Hope all is settling down and you are all full into the process of making it your new home.
(Oh, and I love that you turn the magazines around.)
I think the plaid pants will be a stretch for me - but if I found some at Goodwill for like $2, I would totally snag them. We are slowly but surely making progress on the house and are feeling more and more like a part of the community here. Thanks for asking!
DeleteLook how fashionable you are! Thank goodness it's almost fall so we can start wearing leather jackets and boots again!
ReplyDeleteCan you some be my stylist? I'm in major need. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! Only if you want to wear workout clothes every day!! These are just "dream" pieces....Besides the black booties, I don't really think that any of them will end up in my closet. It's kind of fun to pretend, though, isn't it??
DeleteI've just started wearing lipstick again after a ten year hiatus. Honestly, when I dress nicely it makes a big difference in my day. Don't care for the plaid pants at all but that dress is beautiful and the jacket reminds me of one I wore in my late teens.
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about lipstick that makes you feel so pulled together??? I've been a gloss girl for years, but am venturing out with some lipstick this fall.
DeleteLOL on those banana clips. They should be on five faves 80s version. And I am kicking up some excitement to use my booties.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the plaid pants. I think I'll give it a try this fall...now just to find the right pair. I wrote about my favorite sheer mulberry lipstick today - Fast Ride from NARS. It's a tame version of what you have pictured. Consider it a gateway lipstick.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip on the lipstick, I'm going to go for it! :)
